Post Pettis-Guida Ticketed for TUF 13 Finale on June 4 - 01-22-2011, 05:48 PM

A widely speculated lightweight attraction between World Extreme Cagefighting lightweight champion Anthony Pettis (Pictured) and Clay Guida will come to fruition at “The Ultimate Fighter 13” Finale on June 4 at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas.

UFC President Dana White on Friday confirmed the matchup during a Q&A session before the UFC “Fight for the Troops 2” weigh-in in Killeen, Texas.

Season 13 of “The Ultimate Fighter” will feature an all-welterweight cast, coached by heavyweight contenders Brock Lesnar and Junior dos Santos.

Pettis snatched the WEC lightweight title from champion Benson Henderson in December, launching himself off the cage and connecting with a jaw-dropping maneuver now known as “The Showtime Kick.” At stake in the bout was the right to be called the WEC’s lightweight champion, along with a spot as the UFC’s top contender at 155 pounds. Pettis was dealt a cruel twist of fate, however, as UFC lightweight king Frankie Edgar fought challenger Gray Maynard to a draw in their UFC 125 affair on New Year’s Day, prompting White to award Maynard an immediate rematch. Left without an opponent, Pettis announced he would not wait on the winner of Edgar-Maynard 3 and instead risk his status as No. 1 contender to take another fight in 2011.

Never in a boring fight, Guida has won three straight contests, earning submission victories over Shannon Gugerty, Rafael dos Anjos and Takanori Gomi. In two of those performances, “The Carpenter” was awarded “Submission of the Night” honors. Last year was much kinder to the 29-year-old than the one that preceded it. Guida was defeated in two of his three outings in 2009. After edging out Cesar Gracie product Nate Diaz with a split decision at UFC 94, Guida fell to Diego Sanchez and Kenny Florian to finish the year. Now training with Greg Jackson in Albuquerque, N.M., Guida owns 15 of his 28 career victories by submission.
